EG 76ers lose to Woodbury

Thursday, January 28. 2010

The 76ers came back for their first game after a week off, and encountered a few roadblocks, nothing however that a practice won't clear up. All the girls really gave their all in a game where they all learned that sometimes, the calls just don't go your way. However, they will get another chance this evening as they will face Woodbury again, this time at home. The girls really turned on the pressure in the 4th quarter last night and both Coaches are hoping for them to return to this evenings game and start out with that same intensity and carry it through to the final seconds of the game. Let's put that loss behind us, and remember our motto:

W.I.N. = What's Important Now

EG Lightning Beat Wenonah 26 to 16

Monday, January 25. 2010

Girls all the coaches are proud of the way each and everyone of you played this past Saturday. During the first quarter and a half we moved the ball very will and played a very aggressive style of defense but were down 8 to 2 with 5 minutes left in the half. At that point we had Jen Heritage and Shae Freedman play man to man defensive on Wenonah's two scoring threats and we started to come back. Also all the shots which we were missing in the first quarter and a half started to fall. We wound up winning the game 26 to 16 but could not have done this if we did not play great team defense. On the offensive side of the ball our guards are moving the ball well and we are starting to get the ball inside to our big girls.

The one thing I would like to work on next game is our offensive and defensive rebounds.

We awarded the game ball to Jen Heritage for her great effort on the defensive side of the ball. Without this effort it would have been very hard to pull out this win. Great job Jen!!!!!!!!

Listed below are who has been awarded the game ball for the first five games

Game one against Elk we awarded the game ball to Meg Southard - Meg was instrumental in stopping Elk when the were making a run at us she not only grabbed a key defensive rebound but also on the next time down the court grabbed a key offensive rebound and converted it into two points and help the Lightning secure the win. Way to go Meg!!!!!!!!

Game two against Logan we lost a tough one but we awarded the game ball to Shae for the way she ran our offense and lead the team in scoring. She did this even though she was sick and could only play half the game. Way to go Shae!!!!!!!!!!!!

Game three we lost another close game to Logan and we awarded the game ball to Erin for her defense and the fact that she lead the team in scoring and assists that game. Great Job Erin!!!!!!!

Game four we beat Clearview and we awarded the game ball to Alex. Alex lead the team in rebounding, steals and scoring in this game. Way to go Alex!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Game five we beat Clearview and awarded the game ball to Jess. Jess lead the team in rebounding, played very tough defense and also lead the team in scoring this game. Great Job Jess!!!!!!!

Lets remember that in our game plan we start with an aggressive defense which leads to good scoring opportunities

GO LIGHTINING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EG 76ers Beat Clearview

Friday, January 15. 2010

The EG 76ers came back last night and played an OUTSTANDING game, their best to date. The girls put their previous loss out of their minds and took the court like champs! Carlee Bellapigna, Rianna Cliver and Rachel Cox led the scoring with 4 points each, Abby Devoy and Kate Gallagher each scored 2 points as well. Our leader on the boards was by far Samantha Cox who really came into her own last night and stood her ground in the post. We couldn't have won this game though without the stellar passing and defensive efforts Gianna Deluca and Gianna Deledda. They really worked to dish passes to our girls underneath who were open, and worked overtime on defense.

Both Coaches were blown away by the performance of the team and hope that all the girls realize just what they accomplished last night. It takes a player who is strong both mentally and physically to overcome a loss one night and go out the next night and play like it never happened. You should all be very proud of yourselves.

We would also like to take a moment to thank the parents. We have not only a wonderful group of girls, but also an outstanding group of parents as well. A big thank you to those of you who have helped out with the score board and keeping the book, and also to all of you who keep cheering these girls on at every single game! Your support means the world to us AND the kids.

We hope the girls are ready for a fun practice tonight, you sure earned it! See you at 7:30!

EB 76ers lose to Elk

Thursday, January 14. 2010

The EB 76ers really gave their all against a team who was, hands down a B level team. The girls fought through not only illness, but a tough defense who was on average 4 inches taller than us! They never gave up and as a Coach I could not ask for more! This team gave us a run for our money, however, we can thank them for pushing and showing us how hard we can play. They were a difficult challenge that forced us to up our game and will only make us a better team from this point on. When we face them again on Feb 5th at home, I am SURE that each and every one of you are going to shock them with the improvement you have made. You have each given your all at every game and every practice, and your skills are improving because of this.

Lets come out tonight against Clearview with the same intensity that we had, especially during the last 2 minutes of the Elk Game last night. With passion and drive like that, you are sure to put up great numbers tonight!

See ya at 5:45!

EG LIGHTNING LOOSE CLOSE ONE TO LOGAN 9 TO 13

Monday, January 11. 2010

Girls the coaches were proud of our defensive effort on Saturday. We were lead defensively by the stong efforts of Michele Demask and Jen and Jess Herritage. These three girls came up with key stops or rebounds when we needed to stop the runs Logan would go on. Michele Demask made a steal late in the second half which lead to two points on the offensive side of the ball and tied the score at 9. Again let's keep up the tough defense in our next game.

We moved the ball much better in the second half of the game but Logan played very tough defensive which gave us trouble in the first half. We will need to continue to spread the ball around and make good passes in our next game. Girls remember fake pass then make strong bounce pass into your teammate. Remember we need all Lightning players to come ready to play and make good passes and if you do not have the ball get to the open spot on the court so your teammate can get you the ball in a position to shoot.

Again great effort on the defensive side of the ball and lets come out next game and continue to play the tough defense and lets move the ball around on offense

GO LIGHTNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EG LIGHTNING BEAT ELK 18 TO 11

Thursday, January 7. 2010

East Greenwich Lightning beat Elk 18 to 11 in season opener. The coaches were proud of how all eight of our girls played tough defense and how they ran the offense. Our rebounding was lead by the strong play of Alex Rameriz. Any time there was a shot on the offensive or the defensive side of the ball Alex was there to grab the ball. Offensively we were lead by the strong guard play of Erin Gray and Shea Friedman. A pivotal turning point of the game was when Elk went on there 7 point run and cut our lead to 5 Meg Southard came up with a key offensive rebound and converted it into 2 points and stopped there run. This play turned the momentum back to the Lightning and allowed us to finish the game strong.

Our next game is Saturday at 10:30am. I need each and every girl to come with the same intensity on defensive that we did in the first half of last nights game, work on finding the open girl on the offensive side of the ball and make good passes (fake the ball than hit your teammate with a good bounce pass) and we will be successful.

GO LIGHTNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Coach Rosa's 76ers

Tuesday, January 5. 2010

Coach Rosa here. I just wanted to reach out to all of you and let you know how proud of you I was last night. The team we played was not a C team, that was the ONLY team they had at our grade level for the town, so you were playing against A, B, and C players and you did outstanding! Reguardless of the final score, you never gave up and took what Coach Joe and I were telling you and really tried to make use of it out on the court. Once again, great effort 76ers and no worries, we have the WHOLE season left to go!

See you on Wednesday!
